While you dream, your mind is reorganizing thoughts and sensual information that hasn't yet been consciously processed . Your dreams are the manifestations of your subconscious. They may reflect your fears, needs, or passions.
When I was little, I had a recurring dream that I was a nail being chased by a floating hammer across a large field of quicksand in the dark. The thought of that dream now still makes me feel a little bit uneasy. I think that, as an adult the nightmares that affect one the most are those that are both logically possible and statistically probable - the ones which (if the events come true) would be abysmally devastating.
A 'dream come true' is usually just an accurate estimation of logical events based upon reinforced input - or, a representation of how truly surreal the world can be, if it reflects the strangeness of your mind.
If it's true that 'A dream is a wish your heart makes', then my heart has made some very disturbing wishes.
